Collection: Brouwerij Contreras

Contreras Brewery, founded in 1818, has a rich history. Many beers refer to this heritage, such as the four Valeir beers, which honor both the founder and the statue in the Gavere market. That statue symbolizes a knight who fought in the Battle of Gavere in 1453. There is also the 'Ode to the brewer', a quadruple in honor of Willy Contreras, the previous owner of the brewery. The saison '1818' refers to the year of founding.

Contreras remains true to its traditions and still brews traditionally in the brewery dating from 1952, with water from a spring that has been in use since 1818. This soft water gives the beers their unique taste. An example of the rich tradition is 'Tonneke', a traditional Belgian beer style that has been brewed for a hundred years and is recognized as a regional product.
