Brewery De Ryck – Heritage, innovation, and the next step
Since 1886, Brewery De Ryck has been based in Herzele, where Gustaaf De Ryck learned his craft in Bremen and converted his farm into a brewery on Kerkstraat. Originally known as “De Gouden Arend”, the brewery received its current name after the First World War and restarted under the brand name De Ryck.
Under the leadership of An De Ryck, one of the few female brewers with a technical diploma in Belgium, the brewery grew into a modern microbrewery with a rich range: classics like Spécial De Ryck, Arend, Steenuilke and experimental variants have since enriched their portfolio. In 2006 and 2008, their beers even won medals at the World Beer Cup, confirming their quality.
In May 2025, De Ryck announced that the production, recipes, and distribution would be transferred to Brewery De Koperen Markies (DKM). This step ensures that the familiar beers continue under a partner who shares De Ryck's values, while the local beer shop in Herzele closes its doors. Important elements — such as brand names and recipes — remain preserved, so enthusiasts can continue to find their favorite De Ryck beers.
Brewery De Ryck has not disappeared but transformed: a heritage that adapts to modern challenges without losing its soul.
