Zwarte Zjef – deep stout with character

Zwarte Zjef is an elegant stout of 9 % ABV, brewed by ’t Paenhuys in Nieuwkerken-Waas.  In the glass, it shows a dark burgundy hue, with aromas of lightly roasted coffee and a subtle sweetness.  The stout derives its name from the story of Zjefke: at his birth, the brewery brewed three variants (white, brown, and black), and the parents chose this dark version — since then, Zwarte Zjef has remained the favorite.  ’t Paenhuys also releases Zwarte Zjef in seasonal variants, such as the limited Winter Zjef, with subtle variations on the original recipe. 

Zwarte Zjef combines accessibility with depth — a stout that is impressive and drinkable at the same time.
